ROCKSTAR TICKER: Zenith’s Limited Edition Academy Christophe Colomb Tribute to The Rolling Stones
by Rachel Haslam

Let’s first get out the way the fact that most people in the watch world quite understand why Zenith watches are producing a new timepiece branded with trademarks from the rock-band the Rolling Stones. No doubt because the folks in Switzerland love the Stones’ music as much as the next person, but don’t forget that back in 2014, Zenith and the Stones began their partnership with the launch of the 250-piece Zenith El Primero Chronograph Limited Edition Rolling Stones Watch. And next, in 2015, and less than ironically before The Rolling Stones were set to go on tour, the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster base was used but in a darker more subtle frame to mark another collaboration. Though, Zenith hasn’t really ever underlined the true reason why they’re doing the tributes, but honestly, who cares? When you lay your eyes on Zenith’s newest Rolling Stones tribute watch (dedicated to their recent performance in Cuba), you’ll simply be glad that they decided to start the rockstar-studded series to begin with. Zenith’s Academy Christophe Colomb Tribute to The Rolling Stones is, this time, purely a tribute of a horological nature. The Academy Christophe Colomb won the Best Complicated Watch prize in 2011 for its revolutionary gyroscopic module that keeps the watch’s regulator in a horizontal position all the time so that gravity doesn’t send your watch into a tizzy – which means, when coupled with The Rolling Stones’ lips logo and the Union Jack, would epitomise the perfect melding of form and function. Not forgetting its 50-hour battery life, rose gold case, water-resistance to 30 metres, hand-engraved hour-markets, gold-plated hands, and alligator leather strap of course. Limited to five pieces, it’s a tasty addition to any watch (or rockstar merch) collector’s horde, and won’t let you down when it comes to grabbing attention.
