Slogans make their debut on the fall-winter 2017 runway for Dior Homme

The Dior Homme runway show for fall-winter 2017 in Paris was one helluva polished new wave party. Designer Kris Van Assche delivered the same colour codes (red, black, white) and silhouettes (fitted jackets, baggy trousers, hand-stitched details) that were so successful in previous fall-winter lines, with an inspiration for the music-themed collection that is perhaps an extension of the nostalgic skater boy culture he explored nearly a year ago. It was a mix of streetwear elements with the tailoring sensations that Dior Homme is known to deliver, a slow evolution to cater to an emerging crowd of dressers who admittedly see musicians and their progressive styling as reference points (think A$AP Rocky and Boy George, who happen to be the faces for this fashion house). One of the biggest talking points from the fall-winter runway, however, was the slogan Hardior – a new and cryptic word in the vocab of Dior Homme that was emblazoned on tops and accessories. While Van Assche’s counterpart Maria Grazia Chiuri revived the slogan tee for the couture house (they’re a huge spring 2017 trend with her “We Should All Be Feminists” tee being a hot topic as of late), Dior Homme have seldom taken on to slogans. And in this case, the invention of a new word is perhaps very much in Dior Homme (and Van Assche’s) DNA.
