You probably remember gasping at the sight of a towering 10-metre high, cross-eyed pink cartoon sculpture watching over the runways of Dior Men during Fashion Week Paris last year. Since then, the subversive cartoon figure – designed by New York contemporary artist Kaws – has been heavily featured as one's BFF from Nike to Comme des Garçons. And come this summer, the eclectic artist of the legendary doll is aptly teaming up with Japanese retail giant Uniqlo to debut a collection that will once again showcase his roster of Mickey Mouse-esque cartoons and capture the post-postmodern hearts of the post-consumerist millennial. Coinciding with the launch of his exhibition, Kaws: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness, the capsule showcases 21 T-shirts – including a kid’s collection – and tote bags that will have you pulling off a chic post-Andy Warhol look whether you're loitering around the bumbling atmosphere of Washington Square Park or finding yourself admiring some anti-consumerist visuals at the MoMA on the weekends. Either way, you'll have your BFF by your side no matter what. Your set of colourful companions will be available come September 20, along with Kaws' exhibition that will be debuting at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).
