Admittedly, fashion has played a part in the pollution epidemic: The fashion industry has become the second largest polluter in the world, with 30 kilograms of clothing per household being sent to landfill and 85% of human-made debris washing up on shores coming from the very synthetic microfibers made from our clothes. The world knows it, the fashion industry knows it, and swimwear brand Vilebrequin certainly knows it. Which is why they’re going about their way to set things right, with an eco-friendly capsule collection – entitled MAN – reworked from ocean and textile waste that is determined to protect the oceans and steer towards a cleaner, more sustainable method towards swimwear fashion. Featuring four swim shorts in various colorways, the MAN swim shorts are made from 80% recycled textiles and 20% plastics caught by Mediterranean fishermen. With this innovative fabric, each pair Vilebrequin tailors gives new life to 200g of plastic waste. A drop in the ocean? Perhaps. But every wave begins with a ripple.
