Think of the ‘80s. Now, think Kim Cattrall. No, not the Samantha version though this location of New York City makes perfect sense. And then blend those aforementioned ideas with 1987 movie Mannequin (for millennials, it’s about a mannequin in a luxury department store coming to life and falling in love). If all of this sounds too crazy of an idea, it wasn't to designer Alexander Wang who took it as the foundation of his launch party inspiration held at the start of New York Fashion Week to celebrate his handbag collab with Bvlgari. (Read more about it here.) Hosted at the iconic address of 712 Fifth Avenue, the interior of the venue was dressed just like a department store from back in the days, coupled with extensive neon lighting to match the retro. And just to add some story-telling into the mix, guests were treated to several experiences in the premises including a cosmetics-themed ice creamery, a fine jewellery bar that serves cocktails, a makeshift manicure salon, a fragrance bar, and a dine-in shoe salon. Coupled with live performances by Rick Ross and Normani, it was a one-night-only experience that you just, well, had to be there.
