Virgil Abloh and Nigo

Nigo is to modern streetwear what Beyoncé is to pop culture. Just ask any self-professed hype clothing connoisseur about this matter and they will confirm that Nigo is one of the true OGs of the movement having originated A Bathing Ape in the early ‘90s before moving on to create labels like Human Made, Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream. But while the 49-year-old Japanese has nothing to prove in his field, he certainly has unfinished business especially in one that pertains to the upper echelons of unadulterated luxury. Enter Louis Vuitton, of which its menswear arm is under the artistic guidance of Off-White’s Virgil Abloh, who is a student of Nigo’s pioneering ways. Thanks to Abloh’s invitation, Nigo will now get access to the world’s most famous luxury symbol for a co-branded collection that aforementioned connoisseurs will be paying big money for. Slated for a pre-fall 2020 release – somewhere in September – the collection currently has a title (LV²) and heavy expectations.
