If there were sneakers that single-handedly broke the internet in 2019, many will nominate the Dior and Jordan Brand collab as that surprise drop that were riding on the internet rumour mills months before any official confirmation. Teased prior to the fall 2020 runway show for Dior’s menswear, this grail release marks the 35th anniversary of Air Jordan and the Parisian fashion house’s first important runway show in the U.S. Named the Air Jordan 1 OG Dior, the highbrow version of this iconic model – available in both a low and high top – is made from precious calfskin leather and is manufactured entirely in Italy. Keen observers of both brands will notice their hallmarks here other than the special revision of the Jumpman Wings logo that swaps the Air Jordan name to Air Dior. Dior’s signatures include the grey colourway as well as the Nike swoosh that has been rendered in Dior Oblique jacquard. The highly limited sneakers are expected to drop in April with a rumoured retail price of nearly US$2,000, making this one of the most valuable releases from the Jordan Brand. But hold up, Kim Jones isn’t done yet with this release that is expected to hit the resale peaks of his Louis Vuitton and Supreme collab days. Slated to launch with the sneakers is a capsule collection of ready-to-wear and accessories that redefine what elevated casualwear is today, combining the worlds of Parisian tailoring, sportswear, and streetwear. This collection – modelled by Travis Scott in the image above – features relaxed wool suits with buttons featuring the Air Dior logo as well as silk shorts with CD initials. Also expect suede hoodies with perforated or embossed logos, cashmere sweaters, bob hats, jacquard ties, and silk scarves with toile de jouy and wings prints. Just don’t be surprised if you actually don’t manage to even score an item.
Update (March 18): Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Dior has announced that the Air Jordan 1 collaboration slated for a March 23 raffle will be delayed. No word on the new date as of now. Watch this space.
