Never thought you see Reebok on an haute couture runway? Neither did we. (But let us remind you that we’re still in 2020 which also means you can’t possibly be any more surprised by now.) Prior to this pandemic shit storm, Maison Margiela’s Artisanal Co-ed runway show in January served a footwear crossover with Reebok that had fans planning the locations and occasions that this collab would look good in. Just a quick recap of what you saw because January already seems like a decade ago: John Galliano blessed the Steven Smith-designed Instapump Fury with some slick Tabi shoe features, in particular the visually entrancing cleft toe. Apart from the four colourways available, the footwear also comes in a heeled version. What makes this get-together even more remarkable is that the original shoes were birthed in two different eras and categories, with the Instapump Fury runner debuting in 1994 and the Tabi in 1988. Its connection, however, is not hard to decipher: they were polarising footwear developed way ahead of their time. Luckily for us, they look right at home now.
