There are likely three stages you would go through as an owner of an upmarket sneaker: you will flex it, it will soil, and you will cringe. Well, Balenciaga understands your eventual grief and concerns and agrees with sneaker collectors that some footwear is as good as a modern day art work (take that Warhol!). With this in mind, it has taken the liberty to create a size 41 silver brass sculpture of its Track.2 sneaker – a multi-layered footwear that looks like it was inspired by the human muscle chart of Henry Cavill – which will never touch base with street pavements. This Track.2 sculpture isn’t just cast from a single block of metal like a prestigious European Golden Boot trophy; it is formed through assembling 16 specially moulded pieces. Whilst this doesn’t beat the real deal which boasts 176 parts, sneakerheads will be glad to know that Balenciaga hasn’t taken the easy route and fashion this like one those footwear-based incense burners. Feel free to wield your creative license in what you want to do with this sculpture. May we suggest a shoey (that means drinking bubbly from it in the place of a champagne flute).
