Just when you thought that going outside has also been cancelled for 2021, Gucci and The North Face are giving us renewed hope to hike a hill, breathe fresh air, and even pitch a tent while you’re at it. That’s because they have launched an eyecatching capsule collection of down jackets, hiking boots, beanies, and heavy duty backpacks that look like they are a cross between a stylish flashback from the ‘70s and an elevated Wes Anderson movie wardrobe. The Alessandro Michele dramatic flair is very much present in the collection, from the retro-esque wallpaper prints featuring the Gucci logo to the pop colours and layering that ought to make trips to the woods all the more Instagram-worthy. A key identifier of this collab, however, is in the co-branded logo which is perhaps what hype fashion purveyors will be salivating over. What must also be noted is that Gucci is continuing with where it left off from its eco-friendly Off The Grid series last summer. The bags here are also made using Econyl, which repurposes synthetic waste such as industrial plastic, waste fabric, and fishing nets and turn them into fashion-friendly nylon. And just like it has done before, the packaging for this collection relies on cardboard boxes that are recyclable which means it is attempting to normalise the use of such packaging in the context of luxury purchases.  As for your hopes in scoring a piece of the collection? Join the growing line and check your local listings for the drop date.

Update: For Hong Kong, the Pin (pop-up store) will be hosted at 36 Cochrane Street from December 31 to February 21. And at Harbour City from December 31 to January 17. Online sales of the collection will begin on January 22. In addition, there will be an online draw so you can skip the wait list too, click here.
