It's been an open secret that the late Kobe Bryant would eventually branch out on his own after his longstanding Nike deal concluded. The news was confirmed in April by his wife Vanessa as well as the sportswear giant. News also broke earlier that Bryant’s estate has already filed for 13 trademarks around the basketball icon’s Mamba nickname, including Mamba League and Baby Mambas. While Kobe's own signature line is still in the works, Vanessa has launched another collection on May 1 that pays tribute to her late daughter Gianna (she would have turned 15 on this date). Christened Mambacita after Gianna's moniker, all proceeds from this capsule of tie-dyed sweats will benefit the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, a non-profit that seeks to help disadvantaged youths through sports. As for fans, pay attention to several logos being used in this line as it's a sneak peek at things to come. And if this birthday tribute for Gianni is any indicator, then we can expect Kobe’s Mamba brand to unveil its first steps when the icon’s birthday comes around in August. Watch this space.
