There’s a fairly good chance that if you were glued to the Olympic Games the last couple of weeks – in particular the sport of diving – you would have noticed the hard bodies, willing men and women throwing themselves off springboards, and a certain medal-winning diver knitting on the sidelines. While one might speculate that the latter situation featuring British diver Tom Daley was simply a man completing a side hustle as athletes weren’t paid enough to risk their health to be in Tokyo, the 27-year-old would call this hobby a way to kill time and ease the nerves. He wasn’t even really showing off as he quietly increased his ranking in the hearts of grans everywhere. Whilst cheering on Team GB, Daley was seen putting the finishing touches to items like a medal pouch (certainly a niche item), scarves, and even an elaborate Olympic-themed cardigan that would surely get the fast fashion houses noticing. And remember last July when Harry Styles stole hearts with a multi-coloured Loewe knit? Well, this one might just be even more impressive of a feat as we got to witness the making-of process of this Taylor Swift-esque cardi on the telly and wondering where he was going with this idea. For starters, he has already auctioned some of his knits to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity to fund a new three-year-trial (his dad passed away at the age of 40 in 2011 from brain tumour). As we said, we know a good side hustle when we see one. Fingers crossed that Daley has a knitwear line coming to a clothing store near you.
