If Van Cleef & Arpels were tasked to design the world we live in, it’s safe to say we’re in for a lifetime of bliss. Together with French illustrator Charlotte Gastaut, they test out this premise by dreaming up a new poetic universe called Enchanting Garden – one filled with dazzling high jewellery, of course. Tell us when to move in.

There aren’t many good storytellers in the world today capable of making grown men and women believe in the existence of fairies, unicorns, and magic. French jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels is an exception to the rule. And even every now and then, it doubles down on the raconteuring and makes even the most jaded believe in true love, soulmates, and that butterflies-in-the-stomach feel. Utilising its deft touch in turning precious metal and sparkling gems into gorgeous contemporary jewellery, Van Cleef & Arpels’ other superpower is its ability to mix in a feel-good story – or poetry as it would describe. This perpetual sense of hope and optimism that it injects is everything we need in 2021 and the jeweller has returned with a series that goes in hard on being upbeat. It has tapped on French illustrator Charlotte Gastaut to imagine a new universe where precious jewellery lights up the surroundings like a chandelier. Called Enchanting Garden, the idea is to magnify some of the most poetic works of the French jeweller, transporting the pieces to a new realm filled with colours and cheer. Gastaut, whose illustrations have also appeared on Fendi’s haute couture garments, is already familiar with the jeweller having worked together in 2018 on the art work for the Quatre Contes de Grimm collection. For Enchanting Garden, she has drawn up a graphical fairy tale-like environment – including a sunset-tinted landscape and a romantic moonlit sky – consisting of birds, animals, and lush trees. Showcasing Van Cleef & Arpels’ mastery in high jewellery, this setting and the matching bling will be on display at Pedder Building in Hong Kong. What can you expect from the jeweller? Themes that relate to a garden or forest with motifs such as blooms, butterflies, and birds. A highlight of the collection is the majestic Étincelles d’émeraudes necklace that features 11 emerald-cut Colombian emeralds (39.04 carats). The necklace’s charm is its ability to transform into a variety of styles to match the owner’s fancy such as deconstructing it into a two-row necklace, a pair of short necklaces, and even a pair of bracelets. Makes you believe in magic, doesn’t it?
