“Is that Kanye West?” was what the internet was self-Googling on Met Gala evening. Like a good ol' fashion dinner no-murder mystery theatre, two masked figures appeared in all-black garbs on the red carpet. Let’s just say, we all knew Kim Kardashian was under that masked Balenciaga fit – don’t ask us how we solved the riddle – but who was under disguise number two? A clue: Not Van Jones. Instead, it was the Balenciaga man himself Demna Gvasalia who was also instrumental in putting Kardashian in one of his wedding couture creations at the recent listening party for Kanye’s Donda album. If you consider fashion as a form of social commentary then these all-black garbs are perhaps a masterclass in trolling. At an event where millions are made from a celebrity’s image with designer clothing pegged to it, how much dollars and cents will be generated by these wares or this moment in which Kardashian has chosen to black out IRL?
