It’s fair to say that Emma Raducanu has had quite a summer. Just a few months ago, she was a virtual unknown in the sporting world. And in less than 20 major tournament matches, the 18-year-old tennis starlet went from round of 16 finisher at Wimbledon to first-time major tournament winner at the recently concluded US Open held in New York (also the first time in the history of the game that a qualifier has won a major tournament we might add). Now, if you’re not anyone named Piers Morgan, all of this is highly impressive – heck, even the Queen thinks so and we know she’s a hard person to please. And just a few short days after claiming her first major title, Raducanu got her first billboard in New York City and even secured one of the hottest tickets in town, that of the Met Gala. While the US$2.5 million pay cheque she received for winning the US Open would go a long way to picking out something fancy for the event, it was only a matter of seconds that brands were on the other line with her agent trying to cop early plugs. Chanel became one of the first to ride on the rave reviews of Raducanu as the Parisian fashion house locked in a deal for her to rep its wares on the Met Gala carpet merely 72 hours after her victory. That said, no one expected her to make her Met Gala debut in a couture creation in a span of a few days as such a process would take weeks to even months of prep. However, Chanel clothed her in a look from the latest cruise 2021 collection that was only shown four months ago which makes her one of the first to put it into real world use. The monochromatic fit, which consists of a silk twill top and skirt, features a graphic print that is a mash-up of all of the fashion house’s iconic symbols including the camellia and its famed perfume bottle. Can we expect to see Raducanu become the next front row guest for Chanel and even more? Let’s just say there’s a higher chance of that happening than seeing her play professionally with a Chanel branded racquet.
