Lil Nas X is still a lil sore about those fast-selling blood-containing Satan-inspired sneakers that ended up in a huge legal tussle with Nike and a contentious debate on the worldwide web. While those polarising shoes conceptualised by MSCHF didn’t materialise at the end, the 22-year-old isn’t going to let a minor hiccup discourage him from poking at the conservative agenda and freedom of creativity. Trust that this openly gay young Black man understands courage as he has been on a somewhat solo (and thankless) mission to tackle homophobia in country music and hip-hop. Now, the rapper is entering a pivotal moment in his career as he is on the path of making his own pop culture history that will stick with us for a lifetime. Coinciding with the launch of his first-ever studio album, titled Montero, he has spent the good part of summer ensuring that we all talk about Lil Nas X, which we are. From that boy-on-boy-boy smooching during his performance at the BET Awards to his deep fake pregnancy pics to promote his album to his instantaneous triple wardrobe change at the Met Gala, the star has now dropped some serious merch to celebrate Montero. Rather than place the responsibility squarely on his recording company, Lil Nas X has called upon high fashion god and original enfant terrible Jean Paul Gaultier to give his music merch some legitimacy. The result is a crewneck long-sleeved top made of tulle that features a Sistine Chapel-esque imagery of biblical proportions (no, it's not painted in blood). Like we said, Lil Nas X isn’t done with letting us know what he thinks about his Satan-inspired shoes being cancelled. With this merch – which is limited to 666 examples – the rapper is just getting started on the revenge plot via world domination. Pre-order is available now.
