If there were such a thing as a secret after-party version of a fashion show, this would be it. Fendi and Versace started the fashion rumour mills buzzing during Milan Fashion Week when goss of a possible capsule collection started circulating among insiders. It was enough reason to stay in Milan for one more night even if most have made earlier plans for a headstart to the City of Light for the next round of fashion week. So what exactly makes up this capsule collection instigated between the storied Italian houses of Fendi and Versace? Well, don’t loosely file this as a collab as the fashion houses want this to be known as The Swap, one that also unites their famous logos that conquered the ‘90s. Like a segment on a reality TV competition show, Kim Jones and Donatella Versace were given the chance to exchange creative hot seats and design for each other’s label for this one time only. This exchange of ideas is an expansion on the usual way of how a collaboration works, and in turn, answers all the what if scenarios that might have crossed the minds of fashion insiders one time or another (i.e. what if Kim Jones designed for Versace or what if Donatella Versace designed for Fendi?). Nicknamed as Fendace, Kim’s and Donatella’s interpretations were outlandish when it needed to be and sensual in all the right places. Expect all the hits to appear such as the classic Baroque design, chainmail dresses, FF logo and Medusa head placements, Greek patterns, safety pin hadrware, and Peekaboo bags, just to name a few. What would perhaps be interesting for the neutral is to know which designer garnered the best sales result from this swap. But whatever the answer might be, Versace and Fendi have delivered a collection that's no longer just a fashion collector's fantasy. It's the reason they called it Fendace.
