There might be a buzz missing about Franck Muller as of late but don’t let its lack of a headline oveshadow the fact that this fella hasn’t stopped making cool-as-hell wristwatches that the uber rich continues to court. The likes of Conor McGregor, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Floyd Mayweather still parade its mechanical pieces like badges of honour and for good reason too: Game recognises game. Now, the original hype maker is having us look at its tonneau-shaped cases again, a shape it has trademarked as the Cintrée Curvex case. Whilst not the first tonneau-shaped case in the world – the likes of Cartier and Audemars Piguet have shared this honour for more than a century – Franck Muller was arguably the watchmaker to make it sexy again since the ‘90s which created the creative space for the likes of other big-names like Richard Mille and Hublot to thrive. Now, it’s dropping a reminder of its OG tonneau-shaped game with a rugged black carbon case under its sportier Vanguard series, which ironically is an idea popularised by the aforementioned brands inspired by Franck Muller’s tonneau-shaped business. The main visual draw here is also the colourful interpretation of the anodized aluminium bridges – a reference of the watchmaker’s longstanding use of pop colours for its numerals (as seen in the ever-popular Crazy Hours series). And if you need a serious technical draw here, Franck Muller has been known to bless this manual-winding model with a workhorse-type seven-day power reserve (that’s over 160 hours of stored energy). This means even if you’re in a WFH situation for the rest of the week, it would still be ticking strong the following Monday.
