It was only a rough blueprint released to the public in April. And even then, this Game of Thrones’ dragon egg announcement might have been pre-judged for being a couple of years shy in catching the PR wave of the series finale. Contentious ending of the series aside, we know Fabergé thought it through and waited a fair bit before dropping news that it is creating one of the most pop culture relevant bejewelled eggs in its extensive archive. This bejewelled egg has finally realised its physical form and is timed to meet not just the series 10th year anniversary but also the impending fanfare surrounding its prequel launch in 2022, titled House of Dragon. As reported earlier, this dragon egg homage isn’t a solo tribute project without the proper licensing deals in place. In fact the jeweller has worked with the show’s award-winning costume designer Michele Clapton on the egg’s design as she was instrumental in shaping the wardrobe of the Mother of Dragons. It is this particular character that Fabergé used to dress the enamelled exterior of the white gold egg, with reptilian scales that also mimic flames and feathers. The majestic egg sits on a white gold dragon tail that coils around the base and it is embellished with diamonds and moonstones. Like blue chip Fabergé eggs of the past, this one opens up on-demand as well to unveil a pear-cut ruby at the heart of the creation. (This ruby pendant is detachable and can be repurposed as a necklace for everyday wear.) Even the interior of the egg’s skeletonised frames are just as outlandish with pink sapphires and diamonds set in a manner to mimic flames. Although this prized egg is already spoken for at a US$2.2 million price tag (we’re sure Fabergé is open to future commissions), it will first be part of a travelling exhibition for GoT fans to salivate over and bring up the topic of that contentious ending once again.
