Believe you me that A$AP Rocky is having a moment even though Rihanna’s baby bump is stealing all the spotlight from the co-creator. Having made babushka scarves his very own thing and won the Met Gala meme with his patchworked blankie, the 33-year-old rapper has been quietly busy these last few years working the dark circles of influencing without actually trying. (HIs Under Armour collab is a stuff of legend and he is the first to spot any of the Adidas collabs with Prada and Gucci.) Now, the 33-year-old is adding another feather in his cap by teaming up with Mercedes-Benz to expand on a partnership that started in 2017 when he starred for the German automobile maker in a campaign. But A$AP Rocky isn’t using his name in the headline and has instead relied on his creative agency AWGE – not to be confused with Mercedes-AMG or the Mercedes AWD or its very cool concept car Avtr. Unlike the very expansive and multi-disciplined partnership with the late Virgil Abloh, Mercedes-Benz is looking to A$AP Rocky for the clout he brings to streetwear. The laurel wreath and three-pointed star of the carmaker has been selected by A$AP Rocky as the key visual here, paying homage to a moment in culture where luxury logos like these were bootlegged on just about anything and sought out by just about anyone who aspire towards that kind of a lifestyle. He was one of them and is now using the opportunity to send us on a nostalgic trip back to those moments with oversized logos and visuals of tyres planted on oversized tees, jackets, and sweats.
