Breaking news: Wares made specifically for Pride month need not contain rainbow hues. Balenciaga’s outing this preconceived notion by releasing another round of streetwear-friendly options for those putting cheeky designs over colours after last year’s Gap-like Gay wording for Pride. At the centre of this new release is a logo that perhaps requires you to read between the lines. Called Anybody is Queer, it is a mash-up between the traditional symbols often associated with gender-specific public restrooms. Demna’s version has both male and female symbols outfitted in a skirt and holding hands, representing the idea that one shouldn’t be bracketed because of one’s fashion preferences (or that going to the restroom together is a thing). This logo is rendered on staples such as oversized tees and hoodies as well as tank tops, baseball caps, and slides. Balenciaga is also making a pledge that 15 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of these pieces will go to LGBTQ+ organisation OutRight Action International.
