As haute couture season got underway in Paris this summer, Chanel weren’t just mesmerising its loyalists with a new selection of handmade clothes. The fashion house, as per its yearly schedule, also took the occasion to show off some special high jewellery pieces, some of which made it onto its runway too. 2022 marks a special year for its department handling these precious gems. It was 90 years ago that Gabrielle Chanel first flexed her chops in jewellery design that laid the groundwork for its bling today (her original designs still serve as important references). What transpired was a a private dinner for its VIPs in Paris to mark this 1932 collection and also preview a new line-up of high jewellery inspired by this historic year too. Its main guest and forever Chanel muse, Marion Cotillard, had the honour of wearing some of these pieces – a Soleil 19 Août necklace and a Comète Finie ring from the new 1932 high jewellery collection – ones that she personally chose to match with her black iridescent jersey dress. She said,” The Chanel 1932 high jewellery collection evokes art and emotion for me. The house has literally reached for the stars! Sometimes, in a collection with so many pieces, there are some that we like more than others. Here I find them all sublime, breathtaking. Like art, this collection is penetrating.” Indeed they are.
