If you thought those clear bra straps from the ‘90s looked kitsch, Christopher Kane just went ham on clear panels of plastic for his spring-summer 2023 collection that would make the aforementioned trend look like serious amateur hour. Already a master in cut-out dresses and use of sheer fabric, Kane’s application of plastic here is perhaps more profound than just trying to poke at the woke. His exploration of the female form and anatomy ticks all the boxes in subversion of an early day Lee McQueen. Clear plastics are fashioned in a variety of harnesses and even as a ribcage like closure on outerwear. There are plenty of nods to lingerie too, including cut-out bra tops and garter belts as well as the use of flirty lace trims and touch-friendly silk that recall camisoles. Another neat touch is in the inclusion of metal fasteners that look more like bandage clips or strait jacket hardware, another one of Kane’s take on kink. He created a fresh version of a harness that compresses the skin to an extent that it shows off one’s pectoral muscles in a different light. To this we say to Kane: More kink, please.
