The next time you spot someone walking around with a bag of Lay’s branded potato chips in hand – and said action isn’t in the confines of their home kitchen to counter hunger pangs – pay close attention to that creased packaging. That’s because this particular item could be a Balenciaga bag moonlighting as actual Lay’s chips. Say what? The Parisian fashion house unveiled this soft canvas zipped carrier printed with Lay’s signature packaging in its summer 2023 show, a highly accurate homage that also comes in its usual colourways depicting different flavours as well as the nutritional info table on the flip side. And just to deceive the casuals even further, each Balenciaga bag also comes in a size similar to the real thing. That said, keen observers would be able to spot the fashion house’s branding, located just under the Lay’s logo in place of the chips’ flavour. Expect this Lay’s bag to start a fresh wave of memes and DIYs soon. Demna would welcome it.
