Remember that aluminium backpack by Rimowa that cameoed in the Dior summer 2020 menswear collection? Believe it or not, that was the only time that the German company famed for its hard cased luggage with distinctive metal grooves forged such a carrier resembling its signature travel storage units. The good news is, those who have been salivating for one without the astronomical price point can now do so as Rimowa has partnered with fellow German company Adidas on a sleeker, adventure-friendly version of an aluminium backpack that looks like it was fashioned from Mandalorian armour. The exterior looks noticeably resilient, though don’t expect this to be bullet-proof. Rimowa and Adidas have also given this backpack extra utilitarian features too such as shoulder straps appearing to get its inspiration from military as well as climbing gear. The padded straps are fitted with a carabin and thumb loops, whilst the grab handle and straps feature a secure rope which can be tapped on for emergency use. Adidas has also deployed its Boost foam for this piece which can be seen on the ridges ensuring that the grooves don’t grate against the wearer’s back. What can you store in this if you aren’t doing Bear Grylls-level things? For starters, this works well as a laptop carrier too as there is a dedicated space provided for a 16-inch laptop with two deep zipped pockets for accompanying accessories. Expect to pick this up on November 17 for roughly US$1,550.
