Even if you don’t make a living trying to survive in the wilderness like a Bear Grylls or needlessly seek out death like a Zac Efron, you might have already come to own an apocalypse-friendly Swiss army knife simply because it’s a no-brainer. It’s the working class multi-tool that could turn any fella into a superhero instantaneously and it sure beats carrying around a cumbersome toolbox for a change. For the uninitiated, it lets you tighten a loose screw, open a canned food or a bottle of wine, cut a slice of cheese, and even file your nails on the fly. Yes, all without much elbow grease on your part. Now, Victorinox – one of two most well-known makers of such multi-tools – has decided to put some flair into the design with the help of Off-White, having previously partnered with the likes of Fragment Design, OVO, and BAPE on a similar venture. This limited edition fashioned by Off-White was one of Virgil Abloh’s last contributions (yes, the man was truly busy). According to Victorinox, the creative visionary wanted others to see the Swiss army knife as an evolved version of a stone tool, one that early humans in prehistoric times relied on. That is because he believed that the Swiss army knife is able to perform all the tasks of a special carved stone back in the days: be it starting a fire or cutting wood. In turn, the various tools in this all-in-one tool kit are shaped like the jagged edges of a natural rock. Even the main body of the knife features a new material in the Victorinox universe called Corian, a solid nonporous material that feels like stone to the touch. And printed on the Corian appears to be an Off-White-style blueprint of how the ordinary stone has been forged into a tool. Only 3,000 pieces will be made available.
