When Letitia Wright was making her promotional run-up to the Black Panther sequel, she was also giving us a tour of the latest Alexander McQueen threads. However, not many know that the British label’s association with Wakanda started as early as the iconic film’s first run when Shuri (played by Wright) was poking fun at King T’Challa’s (played by the late Chadwick Boseman) choice of sandals. This leather footwear he wore on film is said to be a pair of McQueen’s. Sarah Burton, however, isn’t one to trumpet such cinematic associations but the timely launch of The Slash bag, however, might be hinting that she has certain Black Panther elements in mind too. This particular flap bag is made up of soft lambskin leather and features the designer’s signature knuckleduster-like handle embellished with crystals. Where the Black Panther-esque element comes into play is in the cut-outs on the outer flap that appear like claw marks. The cut-outs also give a peek of an inner flap – available in contrast colours – that double-up as added security of your bag’s prized contents. Whilst the design notes state that this cut-out is derived from a similar detail in its tailoring game, those who wish to channel that badass Black Panther spirit all-year-round now have a legit accessory to rep.
