The Citizen Kane of holiday movies Home Alone turned former child star Macaulay Culkin into a real-life Richie Rich in the early ’90s. And like any successful film these days, studio execs greenlit a sequel just a couple of years later which went on to make nearly as much money in the box office as the original. Although the sequel has been long forgotten by many wanting to banish memories of classic Hollywood ruining another classic to rake in a billion bucks, Home Alone 2 made headlines again in 2021 for reasons no one could have predicted. The internet tried to invoke the cancel culture law on a particular unmemorable cameo in the movie of a certain Donald Trump giving directions to Kevin (played by Culkin). And not without reason either. Some folks wanted it to be scrubbed because of the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Culkin, who is a native of the Big Apple, shared a similar sentiment about the Trump cameo in the Lost in New York sequel – not that it would alter the miserable ratings the film garnered. The good news is, Adidas Originals is hoping to erase the ill feelings anyone might harbour about Home Alone 2. It has launched a sequel to the popular Forum Low Home Alone sneakers it did a year ago, and this time around, it is centred on the film’s sequel. And don’t worry, there is no Trump association here (or a Ye). The predominantly grey colourway is a nod to the concrete pavements of the city that the movie is based on, and in particular, the unassuming pigeon lady in Central Park. Sneakerheads will be quick to recall anything Jeff Staple has done in the footwear department but Adidas Originals promises this one is diff (there are no pigeon motifs on this for starters). Like the version launched last year, there are a few notable movie links on these kicks that fans would adore such as New York City skyline as part of the strap logo, a “Hiya, pal!” quote in the film on the lace plaque, and metal grate-like motifs on the signature three-stripes. Expect the sneakers to hit stores in December just in time to honour the classic's 30th anniversary.
