Think clay ceramic vases, round mudhouses, smooth concrete flooring, and perhaps even a body cast or what the fella in The Scream painting was wearing. These visuals might come to mind when you witness what Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson has been up to in his tailoring game for fall-winter 2023, his bid to reconstruct what has been deconstructed by many before him. The designer’s focus on shaping a striking silhouette is led by his statement coats that give an illusion of a protective shell, one that is smooth to the touch and seamless without a weak spot in sight. Looked to be constructed from a single piece of wool or shaved shearling, the short and long coats are single-buttoned and feature a stand-up collar as if to show that nothing is swept under the rug. Bet you didn’t expect Anderson to ace some swervy tailoring moves in 2023.
