Breaking barriers. That’s the underlying message and rallying cry from Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri as she presents yet another feminine-driven haute couture collection for the fashion house. Supported by a set design courtesy of African-American artist Mickalene Thomas – a sophomore collab since the cruise 2020 show in Morocco – large-scale embroidered portraits line the walls of the runway, repping exceptional black and mixed-race women such as Josephine Baker, Nina Simone, Dorothy Dandridge, and Hazel Scott. The front row was just as exceptional with Dior’s faves all showing their support including Anya Taylor-Joy, Jisoo, and Elizabeth Debicki.
