Wearing a Dior couture creation to the Oscars is as legit of a good luck charm as any. You can name the leading ladies who have done so in previous decades: Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Lawrence, and Elizabeth Taylor, just to name a few. And even if some don’t end up on the winning end of the equation, there is always the consolation of an automatic entry onto any Best Dressed list. Michelle Yeoh, who took home the Best Actress gong at this year’s Academy Awards, experienced a watershed moment for culture that arguably overshadowed her fit. (For the uninitiated, she became the first Asian woman to take home Best Actress award at the Oscars. No biggie.) That said, Dior’s long dress developed by the couture arm of the Parisian fashion house and its creator-in-chief, Maria Grazia Chiuri, deserve plenty of credit too. A feathery delight on ivory silk organza, the long dress took over 450 hours of embroidery alone to accomplish and 200 hours to assemble. Don’t be surprised if Yeoh’s look becomes a reference when this bridal season gets underway again. Complete with sparkling jewellery by Moussaieff and a bejewelled Richard Mille timepiece, Yeoh looked like a million bucks, which is also a likely figure of her entire ensemble.
