When the Yohji Yamamoto brand puts its two cents on any design, you can expect one of two things: it’s either in black or in white (well, sometimes both). To the fashion insider, there’s lack of a surprise in that department although the Japanese designer is still capable of springing one when it wants to. Take his label Y’s – the main fashion brand he founded in 1977 that turned him into a household name – latest work with G-Shock on the reference GM-S5600YS-1, part of the smaller S Series model. Fashioned from stainless steel, the case is coated in the designer’s go-to black with the brushed finish on the bezel paying homage to the hardiness of its overall concept. That’s all, you’re probably asking? Not quite. There is an additional utilitarian strap in the package for those who lead a very active lifestyle, ranging from crossfit to skateboarding to even pushing paper in the office. That means there’s a high chance your timepiece gets a few knocks than usual. This wide nylon strap has a secret pocket that is capable of housing the entire timepiece, including the rubber strap. Thanks to a protective Velcro covering, the timepiece is hidden from view if you’re also looking to avoid staring at the time and to simply enjoy the moment. Ah, we get it now.
