This is a dream pairing that you only wished happened when Roger Federer was still at his peak battling for another Grand Slam title. The Swiss tennis vet – and full-time tennis GOAT – is now happily retired but that hasn't stopped him for giving his legion of fans a few surprises or two. This surprise comes in the form of another Uniqlo collab, the Japanese label he most famously swapped Nike apparel for during the end of his playing career. Uniqlo has announced that it has matched Federer with another ace up its sleeves in Jonathan Anderson of JW Anderson. The Japanese label has been working closely with the Irish fashion designer for close to seven years, well before he went on his way to become one of the most in-demand designers of his generation. Both already have successful lines with Uniqlo for years but getting the pair to work on a collection together for the very first time is perhaps gold. “The most fun part is getting to know each other, seeing how he goes about his work. I want the collection to be really sophisticated with nice design elements and having a say in the colours and silhouettes I like. It's been a great pleasure of mine,” said Federer. This partnership may not be that much of a stretch to the imagination either. After all, let's not forget that Anderson's Loewe has released several co-signed On running shoes in the last few years, a sporting brand that Federer is a key investor in, which means this hook-up was probably likelier to happen. That said, this three-way unisex collection has everything that even a non-tennis player can pick up, ranging from polo shirts and padded parkas to joggers and sweaters. (Yes, you can also wear these when playing a game of tennis too.) Another coveted item is a black 2Way sports tote bag that is perfect for day-to-day use, whether on-court or off. The collection is slated to launch some time in September so check your local listings.
