This partnership between Panerai and Prada is, well, long overdue. After all, they both have common interests – and no, it isn't just as simple as a shared Italian backstory. Both are key sponsors of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli sailing team, for starters, and both have wares dedicated to the team and the sport. Now, they have come together in an official capacity to work on a mechanical timepiece. Panerai has tapped on its Luminor Due in 38mm and 42mm for this collab, two polished steel models earmarked by its date window at 3 o'clock and a small seconds indicator at 9 o'clock. Now if you're asking where the Prada contribution is to this well-known timepiece, it is in the strap made from regenerated nylon which it calls Re-Nylon, a newly made nylon that it has been using for the last four years. Apart from Adidas, this is also likely the first time that the Italian fashion house has granted permission to an external company to use this material. According to Prada, Re-Nylon is “created through the recycling and purification of plastic collected from oceans, fishing nets, landfills and textile fibre waste globally” which means you're doing your part to clean up the earth. These self-winding timepieces are powered by the P.900 calibre, packed with a three-day power reserve. Can we expect to see more in due time (no pun intended)? Likely.
